In reply to: Richard King posted an update in the group Open Rights Group Sheffield: Those who expressed interest at the last meeting in doing some practical stuff with GPG and encryption might want to come along to the GIST […] ViewWell, I’ll explain properly as park of the talk, but there’s usually not much signing at a keysigning party … but I will do a demo so people know what it’s all about.

Open Data: 1 year, 1 month agoIs there any data on how long it takes to get from point A in Sheffield to Point B in Sheffield? There was some research done for London that show a heat map of the travel times between two locations. Tie that into crime data & house price data, local amenities and you’ve got a [...]

Open Data: 1 year, 1 month agoI’m really looking forward to this Saturday, some of the things I’d like to look at: 1) Improving http://thenextbus.appspot.com so it doesn’t have to page scrape any more. 2) Extending it to include “I am I want to be there” type functionality 3) Can we create sheffieldstreets.org.uk like BristolStreets.org.uk ? (Ok, this is gettheirsooner) 4) [...]

The GIST Community: 1 year, 10 months ago ago · updated 1 year, 10 months ago agoIs there any reason why replies to threads that we see on the ”Activity” tab don’t appear in the main tread when viewed from the forum?
See the discussion around Andy Lirby’s thread on DIY Arduino boards, which is actually part of my water meter thread on Shacknet …

In reply to: Andy Kirby posted on the forum topic Shecknet meetings in the group ShackNet: On acquiring Arduino Kit there is always the option of holding Build Your Own sessions and the potential for Group Buy-in. Great for […] ViewHow much is the cost compared to a ready assembled one, parts, PCB (and dev kit?) etc?
Do these DIY kits also fit the sheilds? For me that’s the prohibitive cost because the Arduino base boards are quite cheap, but not when you have to add a wireless or wired shield to each one.

ShackNet: 1 year, 10 months agoThe small dial does indeed have a big lump of metal on it, it’s fairly matte though rather than reflective and the background to the dial is white which would also reflect. I thought this meant the dial was probably magnetic but the size of it looks as though it would trip a reed switch [...]

ShackNet: 1 year, 11 months agoAbout 12 months ago we had a water meter fitted, and put several measures in place to save water, but we’re still paying around about the same in water bills every quarter and I’d like to know if we’re just over paying or if our consumption hasn’t gone down. The meter itself is in an [...]

Unfortuately, the threads in the forums and the activity streams are not the same. When a forum thread is created, it is duplicated as an activity thread and then has a life of it’s own. So any replies made in the activity stream are not carried over to the forum topic.
Activity stream commenting on forum topics (and blog posts) is actually…[Read more]
There was also a known issue about incorrect links in activity streams, which should be fixed now – it was dealt with in the latest release.
