Geeks In The Peaks: 1 month agoWould anyone be interested in a couple of Bushcraft sessions at this years GITP? I’m thinking camp craft (knots and lashings!), wild food foraging, etc. ?

I still plan to have a crack at doing a live bus location map.
Looks like the data isn’t truly ‘live’, but ‘expected to arrive at’ instead. Still will be cool to get little bus icons moving on a map eh?

Drupal: 1 year, 10 months ago ago · updated 1 year, 2 months ago agoMeet-ups?
Is there a need for RL meet-ups to discuss all things Drupal?
What kinds of things would you like to talk about?
When would you like meet? I think once a month would be practical and we should be able to find a day that doesn’t clash with other GISThub activities.

Open Data: 1 year, 6 months ago ago · updated 1 year, 6 months ago agoI’ve been having a play with some of the GIST Hub open data, specifically the salt bin locations. Early days yet, but here’s a plot: http://twitpic.com/342j9a
Sadly, the bins aren’t geo-located and have addresses like ‘foobar street, across the road from no 32, behind the bush that looks like a penguin’ but there’s enough there to get an…[Read more]

There’s loads of applicable data available for free on data.gov.uk and a whole chunk of geographical data available on http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk (I’ve just finished a project that used their landform data set) -

I’ve only just started looking into it myself. I can recommend HTML5 boilerplate ( http://html5boilerplate.com/ ) as an excellent starting place for best practices.

This is causing a stir in the MakerBot world. Some interesting comments on the Make: Blog…..

To be honest I can’t think of a single process that hasn’t got cheaper once it’s become commercialised. I can imagine in 5 years that you’ll be able to buy a basic 3D printer from PC world for £99. It’s much easier to bring the price down once you get into mass production.
I still think there will be a place for makers/tinkerers even when…[Read more]

Yeah the Up! printer is interesting. I get the impression though that 1500 really is’nt that cheap. Yes it is cheaper than a commercial machine (Dimension etc) but more expensive compared to a DIY build or even a kit. The Makerbot and Rapman are on sale for much less.
Honestly though the Commercial RP manufacturers have dug their own graves.…[Read more]

I think I need to know someone who has one before I know for real though. Something about it, the piccys, examples and the claims just doesn’t ring true. Don’t know what though. Cost in China is likely to be a tenth if you bought locally as a local. At that price difference it is almost worth the air fare.
More than happy to be proved wrong though.
