Hi Ladies, as a result of last night meet up I’ve posted a blog post please go and read it… http://geekgirlsallowed.thegisthub.net/2010/08/03/calltoarms/
…and let me know what you think. I’m going to put a survey together this evening and will point you all in that direction. We’d like to know what you think about a few things : ) -

Hi All, I’ve set up a Doodle for us to put our availability into for a Geek Girls Allowed planning session.
find it here:
http://www.doodle.com/chscg3dakuh6zmth
Essentially, at the last meeting we felt we needed a bit of a shot in the arm – what do we want Geek Girls Allowed to be ”for” and what are we collectively going to do to make it what we want? If none of these sdates suit but your still want to get involved, let me know and we can widen the date range.

Location info – lesson learnt. I think all the info is on here, but that was like my 3rd/4th GGAL event and I’ve not really used this site, just a combination of Twitter and Eventbrite.
Managed to look at wrong Eventbrite ticket and went to Electric Works first and then the Workstation, as per the Eventbrite directions. The postcode doesn’t work on Google maps either, so my fancy phone was no use
Got there in the end though and it was awesome.

The next Geek Girls Allowed is on Thursday 24th June, 12noon – 2pm ish, at the GISTLab (directions below).
This is a “bring your lunch and share stuff” session, plus Cassie Limb will be there to work with anyone who would like to create a design to be printed on vinyl. Some people have already worked on a “Ones and Zeros” design – I’ll make sure there’s paper and lots of coloured pens if you feel like getting creative.
Helen Harrop (@iamhelenharrop and @iamcreative) will be telling us a bit more about STEM and it would be great to hear from anyone else who would like to “show and tell” – what are you working on? Picking up on our previous lunch, I’d also like to run a quick brainstorm to get us thinking about projects we could work on.
My Geek Girls Allowed list has nearly 50 names on it, but I’m sure that must be more of us out there. Please spread the word to friends, colleagues, students.
Big thanks to GISTLab for letting us use their facilities for free, as we are now sans-budget. So, please bring a drink as well as food – I’m told there is a kettle.
GISTLab is on Grinders Hill, which is a pedestrian alleyway that runs between Shoreham Street and Paternoster Row, between the Workstation and the Site Gallery.
Lastly, a reminder for anyone interested in spreading the joy of tech to teachers – you’re invited to TeachMeet Sheffield on June 17th – details here: http://www.teachmeet.org.uk/
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Following on from conversations at our last meeting, there will be a Teachmeet Sheffield meeting specifically for teachers interested in engaging young women with science and technology. Teachmeet sessions are very open and informal, with people getting up to give short presentations to share their work and ideas. It would be great if some GGAlS went along. It is on 17th June in the evening – more details on the Digital 20/20 website (www.digital2020.org.uk/skills/news ).
